j and i eat paleo and our breakfasts are the best they've ever been - shredded cabbage, fried mince + an egg. so much more satisfying than cereal or toast. you should look into paleo eating if you're interested - no grains, no legumes though... :)

Yeah I read about that on the blog that I linked to. There are so many different diets out there to keep you healthy!

Not a problem on the legumes, but I do love grains unfortunately so that'd be hard to give up. That means no rice yeah? Even brown rice?

I was doing macrobiotic (not strictly) because I had a friend here who is macrobiotic, but that's the opposite dirction of almost no meat.

Will think about it when I get to a place where I feel like I can cook again. Cambodia is bad for my eating... definitely. We have a gas stove where you have to open the gas bottle, and sometimes it can be difficult to tell when it's off or on. Doesn't seem so safe...

I wish it were more normal to eat congee for breakfast, to be honest. I only ever end up eating it when I have a cold, but if I had more time, I'd eat it every morning.

Yeah I love congee too. Had it the other morning for breakfast and it was AMAZING. I grew up eating rice porridge and leftovers for breakfast, which is probably why I prefer that sort of stuff.
