True Friends

Topic of friendship and true friends came up briefly during chat. It reminded me of a poem I used to know of. I thought I had a copy of it but couldn't find it so searched the web. Found it.

A simple friend has never seen you cry. A true friend has shoulders soggy from your tears.

A simple friend doesn't know your parents' first names. A true friend has their phone numbers in his address book.

A simple friend brings a bottle of wine to your party. A true friend comes early to help you cook and stays late to help you clean.

A simple friend hates it when you call after he has gone to bed. A true friend asks you why you took so long to call.

A simple friend seeks to talk with you about your problems. A true friend seeks to help you with your problems.

A simple friend wonders about your romantic history. A true friend could blackmail you with it.

A simple friend, when visiting, acts like a guest. A true friend opens your refrigerator and helps himself.

A simple friend thinks the friendship is over when you HAVE an argument. A true friend calls you after you had a fight.

A simple friend expects you to always be there for them. A true friend expects to always be there for you!

Whilst some of these tasks might be difficult with my chat friends, distance coming between us, I do believe that some of these people have become true friends to me, and I to them. I hope they feel the same way too.

To all my true chatting friends - hugs
