Dang it.

I had all my money in on a dog. I thought it was going to be a dog.

Should have known it would be a car. The kids could still play with a dog.

Being polyamorous myself, I thought you were just using weird language but talking about something quite normal. The circle of friends thing threw me off, and when you got to how much money it would cost and then the kids, I finally knew something was up.

But I thought it was going to be an exotic reptile, like a pet alligator.

I love the way the choice of words can draw a reader in one direction allowing me to drop them into a world they weren't expecting.
