After 40 odd years of not writing fiction, of doing technical writing and programming, I put pen to paper. I wrote what I thought was a description of a dream I had had

You know, I think you just accurately described how I came to believe the religious stuff I believe. :P
As for writing...the funny thing is, my writing "voice" is an awful lot like my speaking one. The things I write that turn out the best tend to use primarily the vocabulary I use on a daily basis, with the smartass tone I use on a daily basis. Way to go! And my small opinion is that you have a very strong voice and great stories to tell. Styles and techniques and grammar are only the tools. Words are only the raw material. The writer is the artist who puts it all together and creates something wonderful, no matter how steep the learning curve or how difficult the process. And I am proud of you for having the courage to do so :)
Your opinion is not small in my eyes. Your compliments, friendship and encoragement has a lot to do with where I am today.
And reading your stories help too :D
I searched for another word for 'thanks', using my trusty thesaurus, but came up with words that were pretentious or ineffective in relaying the message.
