Fall 2011! (Looking over menswear from Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Vivienne Westwood!)
Ah, Alexander McQueen... wait. Didn't he die?
Anyways, I was really underwhelmed for the most part. Lots of military influence (more like IN YOUR FACE STRAIGHT-UP MILITARY UNIFORMS with embellishments), golds, reds, blues, etc.
I mean... come on. I know military is REALLY IN this year, but you don't need to beat us over the head with it to make us get it.
Also, this made an appearance:
I'm not entirely sure, but I think that's a tablecloth with a fur-trimmed collar. :D
Overall, though, it was nothing... special. Nothing jumped out at me as being terribly interesting or innovative. Like:
Colours? Nice. I like the way it's put together, BUT FOR A RUNWAY, THIS IS TERRIBLY DULL.
And then this happened:
LORD ALMIGHTY I ACTUALLY LIKE THIS. I WISH THERE WAS MORE LIKE THIS IN THIS SHOW.
That was basically the only thing that I actually really liked out of the whole collection. The rest of it just felt bland. Odd, because it's Alexander McQueen, and I love Alexander McQueen to death (whoops, pun), but hey. This is just menswear we're looking at.
Now, moving on.
Gucci. I've never been a huge fan of Gucci menswear. Maybe because their models always had the tendency to scare the crap out of me, but... you know, a lot of models do that.
Gucci is, however, completely fabulous.
THAT SWEATER REMINDS ME OF SOMETHING OUT OF SESAME STREET. IDEK. Also, man-purse.
HOWEVER. I really did like Gucci's collection this year! It was full of some beautifully cut suits, some amazing colours (minus the horrible, furry sweaters) and, yes, some of the sweaters were very nice as well. Also I have a thing against man-purses, but Gucci does make a lot of purses, so... slightly forgiven? Maybe?
Idk, the pretty suits make up for it.
And then... and then there was stuff like this:
I know you're looking for a stand-out showpiece, guys, BUT BIG FUZZY COATS DON'T CUT IT. Also, are those velvet pants?
Altogether, though, it was good. Not anything totally amazing, but good. I cooed more than once at the pretty suits. Only complaint is the amount of fucking velvet. Velvet is just one of those materials that makes me want to puke every time I see it. /barf
AND NOW ONE MORE FOR NOW. AND THAT WOULD BE:
VIVIENNE WESTWOOD.
/HALLELUJAH CHORUS
Vivienne Westwood. My personal hero in both men and women's wear. &hearts I'll try and keep this as completely unbiased as possible, considering I absolutely adore Vivienne Westwoood, but no promises.
Well, first off, as expected, this show is full of all things zany and hilarious. For example:
LMAO YOU CAN'T TELL ME YOU DIDN'T SMILE. &hearts
There are, however, some really good things going on in this collection. It isn't completely BORING, for one, it's interesting to look through! Some of the combinations of patterns and fabrics and colours are excellent (and some not-so excellent, as well).
Allow me to swoon over those shoes and that sweatervest flkjgdlkgf.
There's craziness going on of course, but at least you can laugh or just raise an eyebrow and leave it be. There are separates in here, too, that would be GREAT with other things--some of the sweaters are lovely and I want them to myself.
That jacket and that bowtie. &hearts
Anyways, enough from me! I've gone on long enough. I hope you enjoyed looking over some of these with me. I may do more later~
