Sorry for the delay here. It's been busy these last couple weeks with the student teaching starting. That is going well so far, but I'm only observing still, so the scary part hasn't happened yet. I'm basically scared shitless about having to teach econ starting next week. I know pretty much nothing. Luckily, I also get to teach European history, ( Read more... )

Student teaching? What grade?

Good luck...sounds exhausting.

I've got 10th and 12th. The econ is the seniors and that's even more scary because I need to know what I'm talking about. And I don't. 10th graders are much easier. They don't really know much at all. (Some of them didn't know where Europe was located on the map.) I'll definitely need good luck, thanks!

As long as you're not just reading the textbook to your class, you're doing better than one econ teacher my former neighborhood high school had.

(My mom is a paraprofessional there so she keeps me up-to-date on the local weirdness. Right now the high drama is that a known bully was punched by a student he was picking on; the bully's mom is an attorney so it's going to court and it's likely that a number of classmates will be asked to testify.)

I hope you get a good night's sleep!

Doesn't that figure? Finally the kid gets what he deserves and the other kid is getting into big trouble. Not fair.

I thought I might be ok with the econ until I asked my teacher this morning about a term and he went into this whole big thing for something else that had to do with what I had been asking about- and I had absolutely no idea that this was involved. I'm going to blow this.

European History is a lot of fun. Somehow more understandable and familiar than the rest of the world, probably due to so much exposure haha :)
Anyway, cool class!

Due to the AP Euro teacher I had in 12th grade, I love this stuff to death. I think it's soo interesting. - More interesting than American history, which a lot of people wouldn't agree with me about. I only like early American history because it's so closely related to what was happening in Europe. I'm really looking forward to this stuff.

Good luck. I had to take some kind of European history class when I was in 10th grade, and my teacher put me to sleep. He was oooold schooool. Haha.

Good luck! I can only imagine how nerve-wracking it will be at first. Econ might be tough to make interesting, but I'm sure the history class will go well, if it's something you love. The classes I've always liked best are those where it's apparent that the teacher really loves the subject and is enthusiastic about imparting that love to others.
