I’m warming to Jack in this; he talks a lot of sense. PTSD with survivor’s guilt on top of it explains a helluva lot about the Doctor (especially his Ninth incarnation but, I am seeing more and more clearly, in his Tenth also).

Jack’s no psychologist, unless I miss my guess, but he’ll be good for the Doctor so long as he carries along down this vein.

Jack has far more emotional insight than the Doctor, and he's experienced the parts of the Doctor's life that Rose knows least about - the battlefield and what it does to you. I think he's very good for both of them.

As for survivors' guilt, yes - I think it wasn't until JE that I fully understood that for Ten that's the default setting. He doesn't expect happiness or believes he deserves it.

I absolutely love the rose window icons, BTW.

[Nods vigorously]. Early on in Tenth regeneration I thought a lot of the darkness and anger had been left behind with Nine - it took a bit longer to become apparent that all the technobabbling, never-stop-talking cheeriness is A Big Front and that the anger and darkness had been turned inwards...

I also love both your icon and catsfiction's better-with-three (which is perfect for this fic!)

Oh, that was great. I love how Jack and Rose are talking, really talking. And it's so true that the Doctor would be thinking of how he's going to have to drop Rose off. Definite martyr complex on everyone's part! I can't wait for the next installment :)

It should be up by tomorrow at latest. And yes, the Doctor is his own worst enemy at times. He wouldn't stop to think about how Rose would react to seeing Jack again, and therein lies the tale.

Oh, you've got me hooked with this one. I love the conversations and insights you've managed to put forward here, even though I'm torn between kissing and kicking the Doctor (which is unusual since it's usually Jack I'm torn between kissing and kicking).

Can't wait for the conclusion.

Thanks for commenting. It's amazing that there's always something new to say about these three, isn't it?
