I posted a link to the original post at femgenficathon back in August and am simply reposting the story in my journal because I like to have them all in one place. Sorry it you've already seen this story. And if you haven't, I would be thrilled if you gave it a try.

Wow! Very nicely done! Makes me wonder about the nature of the soul again and if it's actually destroyed when a Dementor takes it or if it simply gets "stored" inside the Dementor somehow.

Thank you! *bows* Glad to hear that you enjoyed the story.

Maybe the Dementor devours a soul slowly, like a snake feeding from a swallowed body?

Sorry, I can't seem to stop my biological approach. :-)

A true catholic would answer that the soul, of course, cannot be destroyed - it wouldn't make much sense to throw souls into the damnation of hell if they were so fragile. So it would suffer forever in the stomach of the Dementor. *shudders*

From the panic everybody has about a Dementor's kiss, I suspect that the soul would be gone forever - no way to cut open the Dementor and retrieve single souls, like Little Red Riding Hood from the wolf's stomach.

Oh dear, what is it with me and my train of thoughts tonight? lol

It was just something I keep thinking about in connection with "Five Years After".

I wonder if a Dementor can be destroyed and what happens to the souls it has "ingested" afterwards. Are they somewhere in limbo (provided that their "owner" is still alive)? If so, could they be retrieved? How?

Wow, I'm very impressed. This is such an unusual take on the Dementors and sad and interesting at the same time. Very well done.

Thank you so much for your wonderful and thoughtful comment! I &hearts U!

It was the twistedness and how the meanness of the Veela people got blown back into their faces that had me intrigued when I first wrapped my mind around that story.

You know, I never thought about the itch she could finally scratch, before I read your comment! I simply thought about the descriptions of the Dementors in the books and wanted to include and explain as much as I could. But yes, it resonates with the itch she couldn't scratch.

Thank you so much for reading this again, and reviewing, and for giving me a new insight into this story. I still feel like it was all there without much work on my part; I simply had to listen and write it down - so new insight is especially appreciated with this story.

Wow, this is an incredibly creative and impressive story! The idea of the Dementors going back to a girl that looks for beauty is simply brilliant, and you've fleshed it out marvellously. This last scene with the girl taking her family had me hold my breath...

Thank you for your lovely comment! I'm so glad to hear that you liked the concept and the story. *bows and beams*

I started with the concept of beauty being the norm. So how would someone who wasn't that beautiful cope with their fate? And I thought about those sayings that beauty is on the inside, or in the eye of the beholder. What if all that didn't count? What if the beauty of your soul and all your good intentions were just nothing? And why not link the most beautiful and the ugliest creatures of the HP universe? And BANG! there was the story - ready to get written down. It was one of those stories that just flow, and it still makes me happy to think back to the writing process.
