Class warfare

Just wanted to spread awareness about the latest clash between the 1% and the 99%, involving a wealthy banker leaving a 1% tip on a $133 bill; worse, he scrawled "GET A REAL JOB" on the receipt. I can't speak much on the Occupy movements over there because I'm not in America nor am I American, but this sort of class distinction is prevalent mostly everywhere, and aside from the obvious fact that being a waiter/waitress on payroll or even being anything on payroll is as real as a job you're ever going to get -both sides of this scenario raise interesting points.

We had something similar here in London, with Occupy St. Paul's. Same story, protesters vs Bankers and the fat bonuses they get, the inequalities etc etc. Some of the them had really valid points and knew their stuff about economics. In other words, they weren't a bunch of inebriated hippies passing through. They were intelligent and they put their points across peacefully and without belittling anyone in the process. But some of them over here, (and again I can't speak for the Occupy movement in America) had no clue clue whatsoever about how monetary systems work. They were protesting just for the sake of protesting ( ... )

"They were protesting just for the sake of protesting."

The OWS movement has caught a lot of flak for that (ie wearing V for Vendetta masks, doing some really strange chanting) which is why some people write them off as people who don't have jobs/are not educated/mooch off the welfare system. There are quite a few people who know what they're talking about, thank goodness, but like they say, a few bad apples can ruin the batch. I am glad that the protestors are exercising their right to freedom of speech, at any rate. Whether they are heard or not depends on the manner upon which they present their grievances.

Yeah, at the end of the day you have to wonder just how useful the occupy protests are...but I think the inspiration behind them was the Arab Spring, and that ended up meeting its goals pretty well. Who knows? :D It seems like we're living in a time ripe for revolution, at any rate.
