Anders Breivik trial

Apr 20, 2012 08:40

I remember when news of the car bomb in Oslo last July first appeared in the news. Like others I was unaware of the gravity of the situation even as Anders Breivik went on his rampage against youth participants of the Labour Party on the island of Utoeya, Norway. His trial (currently on-going) will determine whether he is insane and committed to a ( Read more... )

I hate that man so much. His trial, the things he says, sicken me. I agree with you, I think he's sane. He's cold-blooded and just, pure evil.

How he could do that, kill all those children and then say he'd do it all over again/didn't kill enough.

Urgh. I would never normally say this, but I wish Norway had the death penalty.

I really hope Norway will get its justice in this trial. I have faith that they will if everyone does their job properly :-)

I believe that there is a great possibility of him being schizophrenic and possibly sociopathic or even psychopathic, judging from the very little I've heard about him. Even "insane" people can have very logical and thoughtful cognitions.

We'll see. I'm sure the people want him to be found sane so he can stand trial and be convicted. All we can do is wait.

=^..^=~

If I remember correctly from the DSM-IV, I thought a characteristic of sociopathic people is that they cannot feel empathy? Although it may be that he's only pretending to feel empathy. Yup, all we can really do is let those people who are paid do their jobs!

I have not read the DSM-IV-TR. I know the DSM-V will be coming out soon, so the characteristics for diagnosis may change. Sociopaths, psychopaths, those related PDs commonly have little regard for the safety of themselves or the safety and need of others, though, you are correct.

It may not be empathy he's presenting. It could be logic. "I did this, so most people would feel like this." That sort of thing. We just don't know; I doubt we will get the full story.

Some of the stuff he said today at his trial is truly horrifying. He denied that he's a child murderer but that anyone who supports multiculturalism is a legitimate target. The he said he had planned on beheading the former prime minister, filming it and posting it on the internet.:O

He says he either needs to be acquitted or given the death penalty. That only makes me wants him to spend the rest of his natural life in prison thinking about what he's done.

Exactly! He doesn't deserve the sweet mercy of a quick death >>; (I mean, I'm not saying to torture him, I'm saying he should be thrown in prison XD I thought I should clarify that LOL.)

Yeah I know what you mean. A quick escape via the death penalty would be too good for him. He needs lots of quiet time in prison to consider his actions. I'm so glad Norway doesn't have the death penalty.
