Guess what? I'm officially a big shot movie producer!

Okay, there may be a HUGE sliderule being used in terms of defining "big shot" here...
BUT, on March 26, DefTone Pictures Studios had their spectacular movie premiere for their zombie epic, THE FINAL NIGHT AND DAY, at the Hamburg Palace Theater, and I was one of the producers!

Well, there are a lot of details that I have to fill my faithful readers in (Hahaha! That implies so many more than three...) on this whole enterprise, but in brief: last year, Summer 2010, DefTone started shooting FND and I was cast as Clay, one of eight "hardened convicts" being transported crosscountry by bus to a new prison. In the process, the bus breaks down and, conveniently, the radio and cellphones aren't working, so the three guards and the cons start walking towards the nearest town. That's when they encounter the walking undead who are, of course, hungry for human flesh.
I die, and soon!
Anyway, during the shooting process, my dad and I invested some money, and under the name of Impulsive Indo Investments, we joined the eventual group of six producers.
To jump to the END of the story, the film's finished and the premiere was very successful. Oh, man-- it went amazingly well!
There were two screenings, one at 3:00 pm and one at midnight. The first showing in the 600 seat theater was sold out, and I guess there were more than 400 people at the midnight screening. There was steady business during both shows at the DefTone merchandising table in the foyer, primarily selling DVDs and Blu-ray discs of FND and also black T-shirts that said "ZOMBIE" in red on the front, and which had the FND shooting dates listed on the back. It should be said that there were approximately 500 zombie extras in the film.
One of the (many) enjoyable segments of the film is the end credits, where the zombie extras were listed in alphabetical order and scrolled up the screen juxtaposed with footage from the big zombie extra shoot from June when we shut down the main street in the village of Angola and had 300-400 shuffling undead overrun the town. Also included was behind the scenes footage of people getting made up as zombies featuring my favorite segment where one young lady starts swearing as SFX head honcho Rod Durick applies cold, fake blood to her: "Son of a whore!".
A very, VERY cool experience all in all.
But now, I have to get ready for work... so much more on this low-budget cinematic journey to come!
I promise!
