All my life, from the moment I understood what the word meant, I've hated fanaticism, and what it can do.

Dear God, just look at it. "If they do not think like us, if they do not look like us, then they are nothing, then they must die." *considers* I wonder. When those priests and soldiers and whatnot lay dying themselves, did they realize where their religion dictated they would go? Did they see the flames? *sighs* Probably not. Bastards.

This, no matter how awful the subject, was absolutely beautiful and touching. I, for one, commend you.

So have I. :/ I was always a history geek, so reading about the Crusades and WWII angered me. And I was nine when 9/11 happened.

They were expecting applause from the angels for doing God's work and cleansing the Earth of the unrighteous, I expect. Probably thought there had been a mistake, when they felt the heat and smelt brimstone.
