+EV Lottery Advantage Play! I am only partially kidding.

If you know me, you know that with very few exceptions, I only place bets when I have a positive expectation of winning.

Well, tonight, the Lottery is +EV... sort of.
Lottery officials estimate that the lucky winner could take a cash option payout of $208.3 million

Yeah. Hence my idea of forming a syndicate to raise $175,711,536 (actual number of possible combinations) and corner the market. Taxes, maybe we could hire some accountant to get around much of that unpleasantness. But there's still the risk of splitting the jackpot (a la quartering in Omaha 8).

I remember a story about the Australian Mob (who knew?) trying to do exactly that. They ran out of time. Don't know if it's true or not.

I also would take a look at the betting slips and avoid making choices that make pretty patterns on the betting slips.

That all being said, I played 5 bucks worth. I've made worse bets in my life and I can daydream for a day about being rich. I only play when the game is theortetically +EV, like now.

Oh the lottery, I always just let the machine pick my numbers. And by always, I mean "Yesterday, when I bought that mega millions ticket"
