Recommendations

Would anyone have any recommendations for B&Bs or relatively inexpensive hotels in central London? I've tried the various website suspects like ebookers, or expedia, but I really do prefer recommendations for places.

Thanks in advance.

There's always the Premier Travel Inn chain. Nothing fancy, but relatively cheap for London.

Before I moved here, I used to stay at a b&b in Golders Green -- not Central London, but at the end of Zone 2 on the Northern Line. It's the Martel House, and it was inexpensive back in the '90s. It was basic and clean and safe.

We're about two hours away from London!

Cool, thanks for that, it gives me somewhere to start. It's for myself and my Dad, in September, and he's voiced a preference for B&B, but there's no one place to look for those!

An Oxford visit, perhaps? Lots of things to see over here. Including me.

Very true, there is that :)

My knowledge of London is sadly lacking you see, so I was thinking that if I just sticked to central London, then it'd be easier than trying to figure out the transport system (Dad wants to get in a West End show and a couple of museums too).

I do still very much intend making a visit especially for you.. it's just things aren't the best right now..

Sounds like a plan :)

We can arrange more specific details closer to the time.

Found this from olethros' LJ.

How central do you need? I can't really make personal recommendations, as living here I rarely have to get a B&B, but when my parents come to visit, they usually stay at the Docklands Travelodge. Not quite central London, but only a short DLR ride away. The place is cheap yet clean. Unfortunately, as I write this, their availability checker appears to be giving Apache errors...

Central where it'll be myself and Dad going to London for a long weekend. He's never been in London before, so I'm thinking the less time spent travelling, the more we can fit it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It'd probably take you at least an hour to get from that Travelodge to the West End, which may be a bit too far. On the other hand, the DLR is quite fun, being somewhere between a model railway and a rollercoaster. And you get to see Docklands and Canary Wharf up close, which may be impressive for someone who's never been to London before.

hmm, he's quiet fond of trains, so that may well be a plan.

Thanks!

Hmm, I wouldn't mind if it were for myself, but Dad turns 70 this friday!

Thanks for the suggestions though!
