Recency Bias

This really made me think about the idea of recency bias in a new way; also you have my utmost sympathy and also respect for having to traverse what could be a new world each and every day. My experience with that is limited, and I recognize the extreme privilege which my sight gives me. In college I had a friend who was blind, and when I asked her how she got around she said she counted a lot, and then she demonstrated for me. I closed my eyes tight, took her arm, and she walked me to different buildings while counting out loud. I can't describe how surreal it was for me. It was especially hard to keep my eyes shut; she wouldn't have known if I'd peeked, but that made it more important for me to keep my word and follow through. I don't remember the exact step counts (I rather wish I did), but going from her dorm to the cafeteria was like 257, from there to a classroom another 572, etc. That was her anchor, her step count, and it amazed me and gave me a whole new respect for those who don't get to rely on eyes.
