yay! my first tutorial... :)
I don't know if it is helpful and maybe some of the steps aren't necessary, but misslilli and orangebreeze asked me to do a tutorial for this icon
but unfortunately I didn't save the psd file so I had to play around again and it's not exactly the same I did before but I got pretty close :)
I'm sorry if there are any mistakes, English is not my first language...
We're going from this to
with PS CS
1. I cropped the picture to a 100x100 base.
2. Then I sharpened it once and took the blur tool to smooth her face a little.
3. I took the dodge tool and lightened up her eyes and lips, so they look shiny.
4. I duplicate the base 6 times.
1st layer -> screen, 100% opacity
2nd layer -> soft light, 100% opacity
3rd layer -> multiply, 45& opacity
4th layer -> soft light, 50% opacity
5th layer -> screen, 15% opacity
6th layer -> soft light, 25% opacity and desturate it
now the icon looks like this
5. I created a new layer and painted carefully over her eyes in black, then I set the layer to soft light, her eyes appear darker and more focused. You can also do it with the lips but I didn't this time.
6. In the next step I used this gradient
made by anica I believe
I set it to soft light with an opacity of 55%
so the icon looks like this
7. I took another gradient
which is also made by anica and set it to soft light with an opacity of 25%
8. Then I added this lighttexture by fightstarr
I flipped it around so that it fits with the picture and set it to lighten. You can also set it to screen but the icon would be brighter.
9. I took another lighttexture by fightstarr
and set it to lighten
10. I created a new layer and used two brushes by teh_indy and placed it on the picture, then I typed marcia cross in century gothic, 2pt, black, sharpened it, placed it over the brush and I'm done... ^__^
