Lord of the Rings wedding cake.

This is a cake we (my manager and I) did at work last weekend.

This is a highly stylized rendition of the Lord of the Rings City of Minas Tirith.

We only had a little more then 2 weeks notice to do this cake. I did the cake parts, baking, filling, frosting, smoothing and stacking. I knew that this cake would not have any boarder piped on between the tiers. That meant that the joints between them had to be PERFECT. And the corners and top edges needed to be perfect as well. My manager did all the sculpted parts and artwork. We chose square cake, because we needed the servings, and so that we could work on the elements on a flat surface so they would dry. That way we could just apply them to the finished cake and...Voilà.

The bride knew we didn't have much time to do a full scale model of the city. She really just wanted the "flavor" of Minas Tirith and the Tree. Mostly she wanted everyone to be able to tell it was a castle. We added the "One Ring" to add a pop of color without over powering all the rest of the white and to add another element of the books/films to the overall look of the cake. This was a surprise for the Bride. I'm told the bride loved it. All the decorations at the wedding reception were all in white and all the wedding party and gusts were dressed in costume, right down to the elf ears. I've never wanted to crash a wedding more in my life. But I was good and stayed home.
