...forgot to mention I'm coming to York tomorrow, didn't I?

Or did I? I think I did, but last week my brain was all squish and nowhere to go, like when you compress a gas in a syringe in science, and then let go.

Anway, I'm arriving late tomorrow (Friday) and leaving a week on Sunday (6th Nov)

In other news, I'm closing down causticreviews because I write in ( Read more... )

I liked On Writing for exactly the reasons you mentioned. :) And I find his horror about people way scarier than his more fantasy stuff - Carrie is one of the creepiest things I've ever read and the horror has almost nothing to do with the fantasy element.

I totally think you should read the Dark Tower, because now you know enough about King's life to get the meta, and also because it's just freaking amazing. Yep. *nods a lot* (Though sadly it does take a while and once you're on the second book you won't want to pause for even sleeping, so maybe waiting til holiday or something would be better.)

Also, I won't be here when you arrive on Friday, but I'm back on Sunday, so, y'know, yay for seeing you. :)

On Writing: yeah. Brilliant. And I mean that as a writer, not as a fan. The fanish stuff I already knew/his personal experiences were the least interesting point of the book, and, you know, I'm a fan, when he got run over I was concerned not just because that sucks badly (to my shame) but because of the genius that might have been extinguished and the books that might not have been written. I don't agree with everything - some things are clearly influenced by his habit of fast, longwinded writing followed by swift and decisive rewriting, but he admits himself the differences that individual writers may feel. Every time I reread On Writing, I feel inspired.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon nver apealed, but that's because it struck me as one of his more purely horror/psychological things. I haven't read it, I may have been wrong. If ever I truly run out of books I really wanna read, I'll polish off the SKs that didn't seem my style - I suspect they will be well written but may rely on cliches - I'm sure that some will surprise me, but ( ... )
