My laptop died. The power jack seems to have loosened to a point where I can't charge it. There is no "fixing" it - which means that my first laptop lasted just over a year. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.

Hiya, one of your silent readers here, nice blog- much more interesting than mine, lol... Same thing happened to my partner's HP laptop. HP told me it was junk but I found this site www.AbsoluteRaleigh.com and they fixed it for $150. I think they make them that way on purpose thinking you'll buy another one once something breaks on it..

That is actually pretty easy to fix, if you are willing to give it a go.

What kind of laptop do you have?

It's an Acer Aspire 5720z, but it seems like the problem wasn't was we initially thought.

It -might- just be my power cord, which is ideal. I know Best Buy (the only place in town that sells them) charges $100 for a new one, but I found numerous sites where I can order one for under $30.

It still means I won't be around much for the next few weeks until I get off my lazy ass an order it. Fortunately I still have my sorely neglected desktop. =P
