"Pooh, being a bear of little brain, decided to invite the strange noise in"

Gary needs to learn that he rides a cycle, not a main battle tank.

On the way home form work this evening, he decided to face down the oncoming articulated milk tanker coming up the road (on his side).  It wasn't until the rather larger opponent had backed down, that it occured to me how bloody stupid this was as an idea.  Gary plus bike masses ( Read more... )

The Georgians were on a hiding to nothing whatever they did. If they didn't invade South Ossetia & restore it to their control they've got a persistent insurgency with Russia looming to take advantage every time they blink.

If they did invade they give Russia a casus belli to come crashing over the border with their massive force disparity. Same gear, only more of it.

Would be interesting to see if Georgia had been stable & legitimate enough to have already joined NATO, with NATO gear (& even troops in country).

It's a far cry from Russia threatening the Poles; the force disparity is a/ not so great, b/ their gear, training and doctrine is better, and c/ the rest of NATO is right next door.

Fair points all, but NATO's credibility just got dragged right through the mud. Sitting back and doing feck all when an ally get's the "squeel piggy-comrade" treatment makes it look like a pointless, weak group only willing to fight unorganised fanatics in dust bowls.

TBH I'd not be overly suprised if russia, belorussia and anyone else with a hankering fro some armed adventure doesn't think about trying their luck now.

Amongst NATO nations I doubt there's any thought of loss of face; amongst outside nations whose fear & need outweigh the actual practical concerns of NATO intervention then yes.

There's a very telling comment from a Georgian farmer about how they sent troops to Iraq to help the Americans, and where is the American help back? Doesn't mention the retraining of a third of their army, their partial re-equipping & flying their elite light battalion back from Iraq but hey.

Russia always has a hankering for armed adventure, and now the Cossacks are back as a discrete force they seem to have inherited that ethos as well (not to mention Russia's pseudo independent client states). Look for lots of filibustering in the Caucasus in the near future...

So...after getting taken out on your bike by a fox, you thought you could give a tanker a go?

Silly Gary.

Yes, clearly the world does indeed work on the david and goliath model.

10kg fox versus 90kg of gary at 25mph = gary pawned

90kg gary versus 10000kg tanker = tanker pawned

so it follows that:
10000kg tanker versus 100000ton Aircraft carrier = carrier pawned.

Fear the relentless march of my logic.
