"I'm running away from home to become a pirate!" Kusano declared, chest jutting proudly out.

His proclamation was met with complete silence for three beats, then:

"Oh?" Shige said as he turned over another page in his book. "That's nice."

"Shige!" Koyama laughingly scolded him. "Be more supportive! What made you decide to do that?" He beamed kindly at Kusano, projecting a friendly older brother aura of 'I will listen to all your delusions.'

Kusano scowled (and may have squeaked indignantly but no one could prove it). He stomped his foot irritably, trying again when Shige didn't even blink. "Pirate! Me! Going, now! And you should come with me."

"No," Shige said bluntly. He flipped over another page.

"Why don't you sit down and have a cup of tea and tell us about it?" Koyama suggested when Kusano seemed to puff up distressingly petulant. He gestured to the neatly spread out tea set on the delicate wrought iron table where he and Shige had been taking their afternoon tea.

Kusano puffed his cheeks a second longer than threw himself down pointedly on the chair next to Shige. He reached over and neatly plucked the book out of Shige's hands - it wasn't like Shige was actually reading it; he was turning the pages entirely too fast and besides, it was probably one of those trashy romances about sailors anyway, so he might as well actually listen.

Shige scowled murderously. Koyama's laugh, suddenly high pitched and nervous, interrupted the ensuing staring match. "Tea? Anyone?"

"Please," Kusano sang out angelically, beaming. "Because I'm going to be a pirate."

"That has nothing to do with anything," Shige pointed out. However, it didn't stop him from passing Kusano a plate filled with delicate finger sandwiches and an assortment of tiny cakes.

Kusano smiled extra brightly. "It has everything to do with you. Ta!"

Koyama placed a cup and saucer in front of Kusano and patiently handed him a napkin to wipe his hands on before eating. "I'm glad you're involving us," Koyama beamed. "I'd hate for us to grow apart."

Shige just sighed, completely defeated. "Hate. Yes." Koyama took the opportunity to shove a small cake into his mouth. "Mmpf!"

"So I was thinking," Kusano chirped obliviously. "How we're all going to have to get jobs sometime in the future, right? And Koyama's going to take over his parent's restaurant and Shige will make a fortune being a scholar and I'll work with the rest of the fishers, and we'll all be apart and that would be sad!" He flashed them a smile. Koyama shoved another cake in Shige's mouth as soon as he opened it. "So we should all just run away and join a pirate crew. I could work on the deck, Shige probably knows all these smart things and Koyama can be a cook! See, I have it all perfectly worked out so we can stay together and best friends always."

His only answer was a baffled silence and the furious sound of chewing.

summary: It's not all fun and games and idle fishing on the rough seas.

"I want to die."

Koyama took a hasty step forward, patting Shige on the shoulder and cooed reassuringly at him, "You don't mean that. It's just the seasickness talking."

"I'm on a ship in the middle of the ocean." Shige turned his head to glare balefully from his position leaning over the side of the ship, putting as much venom as his bleary eyes and hoarse voice would allow him. "Either I die or everyone goes down with me."

Koyama gulped and almost took a half step back, but the power of his member-ai was stronger than the death vibes that Shige were emitting.

"I'll throw up on you."

Well, okay, maybe Koyama would let Shige win this round after all. He shuffling back a few inches, close enough to keep patting Shige mechanically on the shoulder but hopefully not close enough to attack.

"Ne, Shige," a voice piped up from Shige's other side. "Could you not throw up near where Kusano's fishing, though...?" Massu's round face peered concernedly over the side. He paused to stare companionably down at the rolling waves with Shige. "I'm cooking fish for dinner tonight and it's a bit weird."

Shige turned green and threw up again.
