I agree with you that post-college is probably the hardest time of one's life next to the times when you're between jobs and madly scrabbing for rent/grocery $$$. Ugh.
I think the answer to your skills problem is simply working to become competent in as many various skills each job you hold requires, and not being afraid to bring up said skills/experiences during interviews. Simply the fact that you're planning on telling stories as a way of giving back to the community, the fact that you WANT to give back to the community, would be a great asset to any job that involves interacting with the public (and most of them do).
