Every time I think I've come to terms with the fact that I'm highly unlikely to still have a house or any of my stuff not in the car, some stray thought about yarn or Halloween shirts or all sorts of weird random shit will cross my mind and remind me of the stuff I've left behind and freaks me out again. So I watch the TV coverage as the damned ( Read more... )

I know I'm a little farther north - I'm at the beltway essentially, and on the other side of the 45 - but the rain just started here and it really hasn't been as bad as we thought it would be so far. We're not even done putting the tarps over the last few windows yet, and we keep waffling about if we should bother... we're going to I'm sure, but it seems like the storm will pass to the east of you too so we'll both get the clean side of the hurricane.

I haven't seen anything talking about it going east yet. I'm concerned with the storm surge--Clear Lake is going to get the worst of it coming up the bay from all the maps I've seen and I'm in a storm surge zone (so is tygerr but my house is much more vulnerable). I keep hearing numbers well over 20' (some up to 30') and I've seen simulations before that show my area under water at anything over about 17'. And given how well sound from outside travels into my house, I'm thinking it is not horribly well constructed. :-( At least I'll have somewhat of a clue from news reports about anything that happens at JSC since I'm right behind them.

Stay safe! *hugs*

Denise, I feel exactly the same way you do. I went through relief&gratitude that we got out, with our cats, without a 20-hour drive... and now I'm depressed and worried as hell. I dread the thought of the next several weeks and months. And although I got some important possessions out (mostly artwork), I'm depressed about the stuff still there.

I took a nap today and had a dream that Paul left me and then a hurricane came and washed everything away. When I woke up I just didn't want to get out of bed. The moods come and go.

Hang in there.

I want to tell you to have a couple more drinks and stop worrying, because no amount of worrying is going to change the course of the storm.
However, I know that's not really helpful, because you already know that and it's far easier said than done. So, instead, I'll suggest you have another hurricane or three and know that your friends are thinking about you and hoping for the best possible outcome.

I'm already contemplating heaving over 1--don't think more would help. *laugh*

I don't know...could be sort of symbolic. "Down the drain with you, damned hurricane!"

Hell, I'm sniveling over the likely fate of the squirrel that keeps shooting pecans at me with military precision when I get out of my car at this point. Not a good mental path to follow given where it is likely to take me. :-( And the birds who always shit on my car, though they at least have a chance to wing it on out (though not far enough away to be out of the winds).
