In my opinion, depression has two causes: chemical and external. I've gone through the rounds with anti-depressive and even anti-ADD drugs, but there needs to be cognitive and situational change as well for it to work. Otherwise, any drug is like an emotional tourniquet on a wound that needs stitches: it stops the symptoms for a moment, but when it fades, the situation still needs attention.

Well said, and I agree completely. I've been on my fair share of anti-depressants and have only found that they lead to temporary apathy, and as soon as they run out : depression again, only it seems more hopeless.

ditto. I agree. I was actually talking to a friend about this. On a slightly unrelevant note, those "above the influence" commercials depress me.

They depress me as well. I've always known that special interest groups lie to the public, but I just kind of take those commercials personally or something. Like I almost feel as though they ae attacking me directly. *shrugs* maybe I'm just parinoid from being "under the influence."
