Okay, so for this batch of “stuff I like to re-read”, I went back and trawled through the oldies. Like I said before, the show and characters have obviously moved on, but there’s lots of good stuff out there that delivers a good read.
Campaign Promises by Mojo and Jori is a pre-administration fic in which Josh and Donna get together, but realise that they can’t stay together once they’re in the WH. The sex is hot, and it gets pretty angsty in places. It’s archived over at Yahoo! State of the Union with the following message numbers:

If you’re into Sam & Ainsley fic, they wrote a lot of that (but sorry, I can’t recommend any because it’s not my bag…) as well, again, all archived at SOTU. The Josh & Donna ones I find myself re-reading are Namesakes and its sequel Paterfamilias. The premise of the first one is that Donna gets pregnant by some gomer… but of course it’s Josh who’s there to pick up the pieces. I haven’t got all the message numbers, but if you are a member at SOTU, if you click on the "files" link on the homepage, and scroll down, there’s a list of fic listed alphabetically by author. Or, again, I’ve uploaded both fics for you here (Namesakes) and here (Paterfamilias).
These are fics I’ve enjoyed - I’ll apologise in advance for the mistakes in spelling and grammar - they’re not mine! - again, I’ve archived these stories myself and haven’t gotten around to fixing that yet! I’ll freely admit that there are parts of these which might not exhibit the greatest writing ever, but they’re still engaging and enjoyable.
And whilst I’m at it, I may as well recommend another of theirs, a standalone called The History of Us. It’s archived at SOTU (message numbers #2779, 2780) and uploaded here . I don’t know what it is that brings me back to this fic… it’s a little sappy, maybe - but I just like the overall… tone of the piece.
This one, The Best of Me by Perri is a lovely piece of writing. It’s back to season 2, and Josh contemplating his relationship with Donna as she sleeps on his shoulder on AF1. The author herself says that she was fed up with the amount of fics that had Josh, an incredibly intelligent guy, completely oblivious to his feelings. After all, he’s had a fairly long career in politics, even at this point in time, and you don’t get that far without being able to read people, and even yourself. I really like this view - I’m not saying Josh isn’t in denial, because he very clearly is, but… well, read it yourself and you’ll see what I mean. And whilst I was getting the link for that story, I re-read another one which I haven’t read in a while, Postcard from the Bed" . Donna writes a (very long!) postcard to Josh as she sits by his hospital bed after Rosslyn. It’s a lovely piece with a great Donna ‘voice’.
Another fave of mine is A New and Glorious Morn by Lordess Renegade which is a little “what if” fic set after Holy Night. It’s fluffy and funny, and the character voices are perfect. By the same writer, a romantic post -ep for I:OT, And 24 Seconds which has a great snarky Donna as well as the fluff. It’s interesting that I’ve chosen these, because most of her stuff is pretty angsty - it just goes to show that I’m a hopeless romantic at heart!
The Blaming Game by Chai isn’t really an oldie - its set after Things Fall Apart towards the end of S6, but you might not have come across her stuff before, because I think she only posts at the JDFF list, and now at TNL. This one is a really good Josh-study (and I’m a sucker for those!).
I love Friday’s Child by Marguerite. It’s a “somebody else observes Josh and Donna” type fic - this time it’s Leo watching them in Josh’s office whilst he (Josh) is on the phone after the events of Evidence of Things Not Seen. It’s beautifully written, as is all her fic, and there’s a lovely exchange between Josh and Leo at the end.
I’ve been trying to pick one of Bramble’s fics, but the problem is picking just one because I usually find myself reading loads whenever I go to her site. The smut’s excellent (and the non-smutty ones are good, too); the banter’s great - I ended up choosing Take a Chance on Me - Josh, Donna, smut, and Abba references - what more could you want? Also, Adios mi Hermano is hilarious - Donna dumps Josh and goes to live and study in Paris, and he decides to get her back.
And here’s Kim’s Back to Basics, wherein Josh and Donna search for a missing… something from their sex life! Silly, smutty and funny.
Staying with the smut, I have to recommend Vivid by Vivian, a post ep for Evidence of Things Not Seen. Great smut and good banter; this fic contains one of my favourite exchanges ever:
Josh - “You know, 10 years ago, I would’ve put you up against the wall right here.”
Donna - “Ten years ago, my daddy would have had you arrested.”
Hah!
Good smut, and orgasms whilst discussing welfare reform… excellent! here at SOTU.
