Last night was my first ESL class. I spent most of the day being nervous and perusing my notes over and over - truly a ridiculous amount of preparation for one student who barely speaks English. I was worried about making the class last three hours; I was worried about my ability to teach; I was pretty much worried about anything and everything ( Read more... )

Hey. I'm sorry to hear about your job. What happened?

I'm not really sure what the qualifications are for the ESL thing. In training, I was the only person who hadn't lived overseas or spoke another language. I think they hired me because of my MA and previous volunteer experience as an ESL tutor.

The other day I was looking at SafePlace Austin and they have a promising sounding position. It's the Executive Coordinator position and it sounds right up your alley. I don't know if it's part-time or full-time. On the Austin American Statesman website it's listed as a part-time position but on Safeplace's website, it doesn't specify. If it's a part-time position the pay is really good. If not, the pay is a little on the low end. Anyhow, you might want to check it out. I think it would be really rewarding to work at SafePlace.

Are you still primarily looking for part-time postions? If so, I'll send you any that sound good. For some sick reason I like to search the job boards for fun and fantasize about work.
