I tried to read a DeLillo book (Underworld) with similar results. I still haven't finished it. And I have such a book compulsion that I just bought like 10 used ones at a thrift store today (including an uncorrected proof of a biography of Franz Kafka...what's up with that?)
That mood thing...that's the "cujo mood" (from Stephan King). I remember reading the book, which is written partly from the dog's perspective, and thinking, "I feel like 'baddog' sometimes too". At least I don't tear out someone's jugular when I'm in THAT bad of a mood! (But James has been dangerously close to losing a finger at least!) I keep figuring it will pass!
I hope the ESL stuff is still keeping your brain working!
Man - I'm such a book junky. Although I have a stack of 5 or so books to read, I couldn't resist buying "The Call of the Wild" yesterday. We've been into watching Northern Exposure and on the last episode, "The Call of the Wild" was featured prominently throughout. I totally want to read it now. Ahh, the influence of TV.
