It's always suggested that you pair learning any language with something that you love from it - music, video games, movies, whatever it takes. It's a really good idea to use the lyrics, since you'll know how they all link together, and you'll be more motivated to remember them and rewrite them. The only way I learned any sort of hiragana period was by listening to Utada Hikaru's CDs with the lyric book open in front of me. I can't really write much of it, but I used to be really, really good at being able to read hiragana.
It really has been an amazing experience to pick up so quickly just from learning with lyrics. I'm actually quite addicted to writing in hiragana now. I've been transcribing lyrics in romaji all day so I can use them further when I get to Kana/Kanji. It's invaluable to use lyrics as a study tool, at least for me. Cause I love music more than I love air (and I really, really like to breathe). LOL So it's been an awesome learning experience.
