Summer Festivals 2007

This year I went to Sounds of the Underground, Dirt Fest, and Ozzfest. I skipped Warped Tour because I figured it'd be a total waste of money (since it has been the last two previous years). At any rate, they were all pretty awesome experiences, especially while under the influence.

What'd you think of Dirt Fest? It was my first time going, and while I love the music (and Matt D. is a friend of mine, so it was so cool to see the fruits of his labor) and the atmosphere, I feel as though it's just too...open. I don't know; a lot of people complained about the restrictions this year and even though I have nothing to compare it to, it seemed like a lot of high school-age, Hot Topic loving scensters crowding around a couple small stages and a BMX ramp. A good time, but still stereotypical of the local scene in a small town.

Dirt Fest, enough though it's getting bigger and better, doesn't feel the same as it used to. The atmosphere's different. I'm friends with Matt too, I love the guy to death, but Dirt Fest doesn't really have that indie local scene feel where everybody you knows comes together to have a big party. There's so much work to it now that it's like no one has time to have fun, plus most of my friends who are in bands don't even play Dirt Fest anymore. And although I love going and seeing Between the Buried and Me in this kind of environment, it lacks a friendly flavor.

By the way, I saw you there. But I didn't say Hi because I figured you wouldn't remember me.. that and I'm shy.

Ha! I did not see you. I was completely absorbed in...well, not really anything; my friend and I milled around for a few hours and shouted crap at Matt, but that was about it. I agree, it doesn't have a friendly feel. It was still nice to see all those great bands, though.
