This will probably be the only round of christmas gifts ever in which I was tremendously excited to receive socks.

The nice thing about working late is that putting extra effort in now and then helps me feel good about getting paid to do something fundamentally interesting and fun. The bad side is, of course, that I'm probably going to eat some poor passerby on the way home out of hunger; watch the news for "ZOMBIE ATTACK!" headlines.

Today I saw the 3D version of The Nightmare Before Christmas, and made a life-sized cardboard cutout of myself. Both activities were pretty damned awesome.

It looks like I may not go to Africa next summer after all. Reading about hydraulic power transmission when I should be sleeping (but it's for the best of causes. Really).

Best Craigslist find ever: a free upright piano, which four dear friends and I moved into the house with a couple of strangers' assistance after (on less than 24 hours' notice) renting a u-haul, buying a bunch of ratcheting straps and gloves, and careening around they city in a quasilegal fashion.
