They can be either or... I tend to use mine as a free thought log... whatever I'm thinking at the moment that I want to remember goes in it... People are weird though, so you'll have to expect the unusual.

Just out of curiousity, what year are you? I remember an asian girl in my Chem discussion last year named Alyse. Spelling like that is rare, just wondering.
