I was in basic training while the Iraq war was just starting up. We were absolutely sure that Saddam had WMDs and were going to use them. They cut out a week of hand to hand combat training for us to give us more training with our gasmasks and our MOPP gear (rubberized uniforms). It really was a big deal for us. We'd have Gas drills any time of the day. Our Drill Sgt was in Kuwait during Gulf War in 1991 and their chemical sniffers were going off ALL the time. One of my Sargeants in my unit, he was with the marines that went into Iraq. They did get gassed by Iraqis. It was never publicized, or was covered up by saying it was gas from a blown up chemical plant. But the truth is Big Bush had told the world that if Iraq used WMDs on coalition forces, he would nuke them. They used them and called our bluff ( ... )

I have to agree with Ben, at mny points they did have them. Nukes? Everyone wants a nuke. No one wants to use one. Mustard gas though...biological warfare...all that good stuff, they had access to and had used before ( ... )

another thing to remember, intelligence agencies have a habit of looking for the worst possible scenario. They get in a lot of trouble when really bad things happen and they weren't at least close to be aware of them.

I don't know the he knew one way or another, but I *do* know that it was a speech that Cheney gave wherein the VP claimed (falsely) that Iraq definitely had them. (Bush made the mistake of trusting his VP and didn't look over the speech before broadcast.)
