Last night I had an eye doctor appointment.
I've been getting those little headaches at work that say eye strain. And things have been getting blurrier. The double vision is getting worse too. (I should specify: It's double vision PER eye, not the eyes not matching up right.) So I went to the eye doctor. It's been a touch over 2 years, so it's time, right?
He did his tests. And then he told me I have some sort of progressive disease called keraconus. They don't know where it comes from, there's no cure, and I have it in both eyes. Whee? Apparently, what it does is 'mis-shape' the cornea. I'm told that's the clear covering on the eye, and that it's usually nice and round. mine's thin in areas and thick in others, which makes light do funny things and blur and gives me double-vision!
The good thing? This takes my eye doctor stuff off my vision plan and onto my medical plan - which has more coverage AND has the deductible paid for the year.
The bad thing? He can't make my vision any better with glasses. At all. I have to switch to contacts - the hard kind - so we can reshape the way the light comes in. I don't like having stuff near my eyes. Not One Bit. And I'm so used to glasses I feel like I look weird without them.
The diagnostic contacts will be in sometime within the next two weeks, and then I have to be taught how to use them. I'm scared, but don't have much choice. So I'm trying to just hope it goes well
