Shoot-a-week #16: Draped in Chains

Nov 22, 2010 23:17

This time, I did a shoot, the image of which has been floating around in my mind for a while.

I liked the idea of juxtaposing the grubby, rusty chains, against the softer skin of the model. I could probably have done this one as a nude, but that seemed to be ... too much. Similarly, this had the potential for going into "bondage," when all I really wanted was "weight."

This is another subject I may try again. Brenda actually said, after seeing the pictures, that I should try it again with a "more trim and fit" model. I don't agree. If I try it again, it will certainly not be to replace this with a younger model, because I'm quite please with what we did. It just might be fun to explore it some more.

The model is actually the girlfriend of a former co-worker, who has recently gotten into photography, himself. I think this was her first time posing for anyone but him, so that made for an interesting experience. It also led to us doing a wider array of more "normal" shots, to expand her portfolio a bit.

This set's for my mother. Just like my wife teases me a bit about photographing young women in their underwear, my mother does much the same, only emphasizing the "young" part. "Why don't you make old women beautiful?" isn't an exact quote, but it gets the sentiment. At close to 50, Brenda is far from "old," but maybe it still counts.
