The eyes seem a bit dark, which adds a very strange set of thoughts to the picture. Is that intentional? (Or, am I, having worked approximately 38 hours on my last three workdays, just seeing things?)

No, I don't think you're exactly seeing things. I didn't do anything to intentionally darken the eyes, but there is a sort of darkness to them. Perhaps the makeup is accentuating it?

All that said, the "strange set of thoughts" are probably appropriate for the image.
