Was this kind of thing ever socially acceptable to Women, or is this kind of stuff why there were so many alcoholic housewives in the 50's?

I love this so hard,
the only thing better is the (50-60 year old) Navy recruting poster Dad has that shows a woman in an oversized uniform saying
"Gee! I wish I were a man, then I'd join the NAVY!"

I don't think it was ever acceptable; I just think they didn't have a strong enough voice to complain.
