During the time they had been at New Vulcan, Laiyne had spent pretty much all of her time in Sickbay, trying not to think about where they were. She knew that if she did, she'd likely end up back where she was a few months before, and she didn't want that. The last year had been hard enough.

So, honestly, she was actually a bit thankful when it was time for the ship to leave. Maybe someday she'd be able to visit and not have it hurt so much, but she knew that time wasn't now.

She was walking past the transporter room after her shift when she suddenly sensed a feeling of exhaustion emanating from nearby. Nurse instincts kicking in, she went to door and looked in.

"Commander Bauer, is everything all right?"

After sending the transporter chief out, he expected to have a couple minutes to collect himself. Instead he looked up in surprise. It took him a couple extra seconds to put a name to face, something he could normally do no problem.

"Nurse Noel?"

She found herself taking a step back as she realized that she had intruded.

"Yes, Sir. I'm sorry, I didn't mean... I was walking by and I sensed..." She motioned behind her before shrugging slightly, knowing that some people weren't comfortable with her empathic ability. "I just wanted to make sure you didn't need some help."

Once his eyes found her, they didn't stray. In fact, he seemed absolutely fixated. It was a long stare though, like he was looking at her but not really seeing her. His brain had come to a grinding halt and a headache was taking up permanent residence.

The lack of moisture in his mouth made him swallow hard and the unfocused gaze finally shifted. "S'okay. You're not...," he says, stopping to take a breath. "You're not intruding."
