I'm awesome, getting run over by my car, and other things

I forgot to update this yesterday!

Yesterday I got run over by my car. It was another brilliant moment in the life of Deborah. You know, one of those kinds of things where people look at me and say "you know, of all the people I know, that would happen to you" (after confirming that I wasn't injured ( Read more... )

Jesus, that's mad. I'm trying not to laugh because it must be an unpleasant experience, but the way you describe it is quite funny!

ETA: good thing Joel was there. Trapped under a car for several hours in January = not good!

It's okay to laugh. I laugh about it!

I just got really lucky. I can only imagine how long I would have been stuck there had it been a typical morning (typical mornings I leave the house at 5:45 AM, not many people out at that hour). I would have either had to just start yelling for help hoping someone would have eventually heard me or waited for a neighbour to eventually come out and leave for work and wave them down hoping they'd see me flailing my arms!

Indeed, yesterday was an unusually cold morning (even though I did have my wool scarf, wool coat, and favourite gloves on)!

They make me happy! (And the tweed part is teflon coated for extra protection from ickiness.)

Well, mainly it was inconvenient and funny, since I wasn't actually hurt. The whole time I kept thinking to my self, "Ow, my foot hurts, but my BOOTS BETTER NOT BE RUINED!!!" and that was the first thing I checked once the car was off my foot. Just some tread marks on my foot that I finally remembered to clean off later on in the afternoon.

...why did you put your car in neutral before scraping the windows? Maybe don't do that again.

Glad your toes are still attached!

Um, because if I turn on the car, leave it in gear, then let out the clutch it will kill the engine. That's how cars work. Not the greatest thing for the car, and not the most effective way to leave it running. Actually, impossible to leave it running that way and killing the engine defeats the idea whole idea of "warming up the car".

I was more concerned about my foot. It didn't run over just my toes, it got my whole foot.

Muh? Maybe there's something about cars with manual transmissions that I don't know. Doesn't it have a "park" function?

Yes. If a car is in gear, it must either be going that speed, or else the clutch must be down, otherwise the engine will die (unless the engine is off, which case, it doesn't matter because of course, I actually have to put my car into reverse in order to take the keys out of the ignition). I *think* most manual cars I know of are actually put into neutral when they're off, but mine is unique (but if you know how my car works, putting it into reverse actually makes a LOT more sense). I don't think I've ever encountered a manual car that has a "gear" for park.

I'm glad your foot (and boot!) is alright. My younger brother had his foot run over by a car (the dumbass chick driving was backing out of her driveway and didn't bother to look over her shoulder to see if there was anyone behind her) and it put tire marks on his shoe. He was remarkably nonchalant about it, though - apparently it didn't hurt that much.

Yeah, I've heard that being run over by a car can really hurt and do some serious damage, but for me it didn't hurt too much. I mean, as it was ON my foot it really hurt, but once the car got off my foot, it felt better immediately and I knew right away there wouldn't be any bruising or anything. I suppose it could have hurt much more if the car had gone ALL the way over, but it went over only enough to trap me.

Sometimes I think I should be a writer. Somehow I always manage to make all my strange or boring stories interesting. Some people even thought my car oil leaks livejournal entry was interesting!

I'm glad you're glad I'm okay!
