can i ask how much of this project (and your work in general) is conceptual and how much is instinctual?
anyway, you're really good, i'm sure you know it of course, but i'm glad you're putting these up because they're pushing me to hurry up and get back to shooting.

thanks! actually my class didnt really have a positive response, they kept saying that the figure implies that there should be a distinct narrative or that the viewer should be able to have some sort of emotional connection to the figure. which is completely off. oh well.
anyways, i think all of my images are more instinctual or visionary, like i have all these crazy neurotic obsessions with easter eggs, polka dots, construction paper, etc, and i always have a catalog of environments that i want to create temporary installations in. i really can't understand it so i just embrace it and hope i can find some formal/elegant way to explain it later.

yeah, it sounds like people are sort of projecting those ideas onto the pics. are you interested in doing full-blown installations? personally i see traces of fictional/fantastical situations in them, but they stop before getting to any kind of narrative or subjectivity. i think that's why i find them jarring and surreal, they're documents of situations that don't make sense no matter how you read them. good luck w/ it!
