i totally agree. for myself, i mean. it's complicated. do you mind if i mention this post in one of my own posts? i'm not sure if i'll go through with it, but you've made think about some things.

of course you can love your country and hate the sorry state that it's in. i feel so grateful for exactly the same reasons you do, that i'm not regular or mediocre and that my one goal isn't to be in line with the rest of society. but as for leaving, you always have to think about yourself first. it doesn't mean you are turning your back forever

yeah, i like the idea of staying within academia my entire life and i want to do the whole non-profit, community gallery thing too. one of my friend's aunts or something is a curator and she says that nowadays you need a phD cause its super competitive. dammit i just want to get paid to say what sucks and doesnt suck.

as for the whole moving forward bit, i like to idealize things, so i often fall into the trap of the whole set in stone thingie.

what do you like about academia? just curious, i'm undecided about it. yeah, i hear it really is hard to curate without a PhD, but supposedly modern art galleries are less stringent about having one.

ive never had a problem with things being structured and organized. i also like the idea of having long conversations with like-minded, like-educated people about every little detail. i also think it has to do with how i was raised, since my dad has always had a university related job.
