i'm sorry to hear all that. desensitization starts in med school ... after a month or two of digging into a corpse a few times a week, death starts to seem ever-so-slightly more passe, even though it's precisely the opposite. it's a sad truth that doctors have to be able to work through life & death without being too affected by either, especially considering that so many enter the field because life & death are so significant.

(i couldn't agree more about fluorescent lights.)

i feel you on the fear of transportation vessels. a month ago, i got into my first car accident while i was visiting my parents in michigan. it was raining hard and i hydroplaned into another car, and i thought i killed someone. for twenty minutes, i thought my life was over, i was going to jail, all because the stupid car's wheels held no traction to the highway. it was completely out of my hands, and i was fucked.

and then i realized, i was alive, and the person was alive. and i should be thankful. worse things happen, and you entry is an example. and life is fleeting and all the recycled psychobabble. but not just that.

and be scared. how we all hold each other's lives, dangling over brimstone fires, by the use of transit. (shudder)

ps. happy holidays.
