I would like to partake of your pumpkin pie...

I decided to have a culinary weekend. I found this cute greengrocer's around the corner (it's only taken me three months...) and bought loads of vegetables including PUMPKIN.

And so I made PIE... mmm...

First up I had to go to Tesco and buy things because although I had the pumpkin I was still short on a few essentials... such as a pie dish. My local Tesco is GINORMOUS and yet they had NO PIE DISHES. I had to make do with a casserole dish instead. Fail Tesco fail.

So here's the stuff you need to make your very own delicious pie...

It's very important at this point to make sure you have some most excellent music playing because the preparation of the pumpkin is a somewhat laborious task. I selected the Wicked! soundtrack. It was a solid choice.

At this point I realized that I have no muscles as I found it kinda difficult to even break into the pumpkin.

But I managed eventually...

Then the deseeding begins...

The seeds make for good eating when toasted in butter... mmm...
And this is what pumpkin innards look like...

And now for his close up...

And super scary close up (it's nearly Halloween)...

Anyway then he gets cut up into little pieces and placed in boiling water (I'm cruel like that)...

And you knock up some pastry for a pie case (which was more difficult than it sounds because I realized that we don't have a rolling pin...).

And then I got a little too into the actual cooking process and forgot to take any more pictures until the pie had gone into the oven. But basically Mr. Pumpkin gets mashed and mixed up with evaporated milk, cream, sugar, and spices and poured into the pie crust.

Et voila! Pie!

And because it's a marriage made in heaven and second only to PB&J... coffee and pie!

(Serving suggestion: ironing board not included).

:)

The pumpkin was totally bargainous. I got enough out of it to make a decent sized pie AND three or four portions of soup AND I toasted all the seeds for a tasty snack. And all for £1.50!

My parents came to visit today so we went out for a pub lunch and then walked around Harrogate for a little while where I bought a cute new skirt for work. And today is twenty-five hours long which meant I got an extra hour in bed this morning. I think we should do this every weekend (in fact I will be doing it again next weekend as that's when US daylight savings time ends). And Stephen Fry is on telly soon. Win, win, win.
