The man said that it's one of those things. However, I know nothing about cars. I opened up the bonnet to find out what was wrong but I realised after staring at it for a minute or so that I had no idea what I was looking at, so I closed it.
Now, it works fine again. No sickie noises for my pretty Peugeot.
Best to keep an eye on it, if the battery is struggling to start the car not long after you have drove it, it suggests it is struggling to hold charge.
If you look on the top of the battery it should have a first charge date on it, if the battery is the one that came with the car it'd probably just getting old, especially if the car was sitting around not running for a while prior to you buying it.
I had to replace the battery on Ellen's car after we bought it because we had a similar problem, you can jump start them like but you don't want to be stranded miles from anywhere!
I think it was just one of those things. The car was still under warranty, so it was free for me; just a bit inconvenient. The car wasn't hanging around at all - it went straight from the previous owner to me, with a week or so in between to satisfy the bureaucracy.
Need to arrange a trip down to St. H. some time. The trip looks incredibly easy - the M6 seems to take you right to your front door!
Cool. Well, if you let me know when you have a spare weekend or something, I can nip down, nay bother. It'll give me a chance to practice my motorway driving, too!
My word. I tried! I really did! I started to find out about engines, but my brain rebelled and started to leak out of my ears half-way through the first paragraph.

It seems that cars usually make the little sickie noises before turning the engine over at least once, prior it completely giving up the ghost.
