After a few days of working, I think I have my email server working.  As a matter of fact, I know it works.  Just one little problem now...  POP.  If I want to read the email, I have to open the Mailbox directly in my shell.  I installed a POP toaster that should have been easy, but for some reason it isn't working right.  Anyone out there know of ( Read more... )

Good Question. I've never used Qmail. Tend to prefer postfix, but that's just me.
In general thought, it shouldn't matter what SMTP server you are using. Most of them store mail in the same place. First there is ipopd. Then there is qpopper. Personally though, I'd rather use IMAP via imapd sometimes called uw-imapd.

I hope that helps to point you in the right direction.

Turns out it has a client that was with the package I downloaded. pop3d. I installed it, and it killed the SMTP on the server. My 2 Sends work, and one of the SMTP processes work, but the other one and the two pop services won't come up. Had I read the documentation properly, I would have noticed that Checkpassword was a component that I needed for pop3d to work with qmail.

Keep in mind I know next to nothing about linux and even less about mail servers, to forgive me if I make dumb mistakes. ;) Oh well, how else do you learn right? :)

Trustix 2.2. Version 3.0 wasn't quite stable yet when I did the install. No GUI. All command line. I guess if you are going to go Linux go ALL THE WAY! ;)
