Twelve things I learned at ALA that were not in the program guide

1. John Green is a lot taller than I remember him being. But he's my age and 30 is awfully late for a growth spurt, so maybe I was just wearing higher heels when I first met him in 2005 ( Read more... )

ALA misses you!

Come when it's in Chicago next summer. We can have pizza. And lots of drinks, which I'm going to need after my very long meetings.

I'm sad I missed you, too. I tried to convince Liz to give me her Friday dinner invite but alas.

5. SO JEALOUS.

6. I was the taller of the two of us, and I'm 5'4" on a good day. So, yeah. Not fun. But we got it all sorted out.

12. I used to live in Huntington Beach, so maybe it was the whole Orange County effect. I really hated every second of living there.

13. Oh hell yes. I always carry flipflops with me to ALA for this reason.

Despite never having gone to an ALA anything, I'm so seconding #10. Better than sliced bread, I say, because really if you're hungry, you can rip the bread into chunks.

And also? Sliced bread won't tell you where your meetings are, or where your friends' meetings are, or remind you to go to the dentist.

It really is unhelpful that way, I find.

Seriously, how did people get organized before Google calendar? One of my friends and I are also using it to message each other about what's really going on in our lives. It's like email but for shorter attention spans.

Anyway, it sounds like you had a great time at ALA. Kudos!

Reading your list just made think: Darn, why am I not a librarian so I could have gone??

Goodies are fun and I love the Blue Bayou and well, Disneyland in general.

4. I have that bag! I'm auctioning it off next month (charity). Even though I was sorely tempted to put it on eBay after seeing the resell value on $20 author tour tickets.

5. I want to have a midnight release party for that book. I also hope its timing means that book with the sparkly vampires gets forgotten.

4. Mine is somewhere between CA and NJ in Media Mail Hell. I really want it, because Michele told me she doesn't need it so I'm going to give it to one of our libraries to give away as a teen prize at their release party.

5. OMG YES. That book is so, SO Much more deserving of a huge fandom than the sparkly vampire book. It is seriously amazing.
