To say in the least, life has completely sucked this week. it's been one bad thing after another. No one's died, but it's not been anything good, either

It's sad when concert tickets cost more than min wage kids can make in a *week*. I know touring is expensive, but seriously, it's no longer giving up a couple of dinners out in favor of concert tickets: it's *rent*.
I must be missing something here. What do kids earning minimum wage, or kids in general, have to do with the price of concert tickets? I mean, a LOT of things cost more than someone earning $5.65/hour can earn in 40 hours, before taxes. Examples: My car insurance, my student loan payment, a week's rent (and a month's rent on a really crappy studio apartment anywhere in my state), a legal copy of Microsoft Office. I don't think the comparisons are equal.
I wasn't really making a comparison. You were bemoaning, basically, that someone with a normal good job still can't easily afford concert tickets because they're absurdly expensive. I'm agreeing. Concert tickets have gone up so much it's no longer a case of skimping here and there to afford them, it's a serious expenditure - thus the reference to rent money.
Back when they were about 35 dollars each a person with a good job only had to work a couple of hours to pay for them. Even min wagers could bite the bullet and give up a day or so's wages and get one. Now a min wager working part time would have to work a week to afford a single ticket. It's just amazing to me that what used to be such a commonplace pastime is turning into a rare treat because the price has outpaced inflation to unfortunate levels.
And gah, don't get me started on the cost of Microsoft Office! There's a reason why it's been called their cash cow for decades. /grumbles/

The ipod will make you happier longer than the concert tickets would have, I'm thinking.
