I found the "Breastfeed or Else" article kind of disturbing. It seemed like both the title and the tone had a "Oh what new awful thing are they making women do" feel to it.

i saw the headline across a crowded room :D and i was all revved up and prepared to be pissed off. the headline made me think it was going to be all "boob nazis are mean! boo hoo, they make ff mommies feel bad. waah!!!" but when i read it i was pleasantly surprised. i thought it was definitely on the positive side. my only complaint (besides the headline) was that she used language such as "bf babies are less likely to blah blah blah" rather than treating bf as the norm and reporting the problems as increased risks associated with use of formula.

btw, mofic, hi to a fellow psp member (and i think we go to the same shul - psjc?)

Yep... I noticed that. It always irritates me when people frame their argument in that way.

and that quote from the woman at UofKy... we don't KNOW if she really couldn't or if her peditrician SUCKED! I want to drive to LEX right now and beat some since into her and ask the "real" questions to see if she really couldn't produce milk.

Yeah. I know that women have REAL issues, but that article makes us all look like boob snobs in a bad way. Oh whine. whine whine whine those boobie people make me feel guilty.

Here's what a friend said when I posted this in another journal/blog. I think she has a really excellent point:

You know, how people keep saying that telling the truth about formula is going to make moms feel guilty. I agree. I feel so bad for those moms who try to breastfeed and *want* to but just don't have the access to the right info/health care professionals ( ... )
