Pardon me if I've disappeared off the planet and you wonder if I still love you. I've been in the midst of innumerable struggles with end of quarter stuff, jobs, funding, and various existential crises about my purpose on the earth. I doubt I'm smarter....smarter would be deciding to major in business in college and get myself a job doing lucrative things instead of pondering the mysteries of American sociology of religion.

My vocabularity is the small shred of dignity to which I rabidly grasp.

I don't think being interested in American religious sociology rather than cash money is smart or not-smart. Studying what interests you, though, rather than just chasing Benjamins, that's certainly the right answer. In America, if you do what you're best at and you do it well, someone will pay you for it. Being satisfied with what you do, whether or not you have a Jag and a huge mansion, is really the only way to beat the rat race.

But yes, I agree that continuing to need parents' help with money on deep into our 20s is a pain in the ass.
