INTERVIEW!!!

I'VE GOT AN INTERVIEW! I sent out my résumé to three landscaping companies last night and got a reply today! The guy who owns Linden Landscaping wants to meet me for an interview when I get back. It sounds very hopeful. The job is exactly what I want: landscaping, not just sod-laying, $9 an hour, full time work (more, actually- 50 hours a week ( Read more... )

Ooh, congrats on the interview! By an astonishing coincedence, I have just been modelling interview outfits for Vicky and Renee, and mine is at a women's shelter, so it can't be dressy-dressy either.

Now, apparently skirts are bad (or maybe just cause mine has fruit on it...), flip flops are also bad, and backpacks are not encouraged, but it you have to go write a statistics exam afterward, entirely appropriate. An appropriate interview outfit, according to my panel, is a shirt with a ribbon, a cardigan, cords and flats. Oh, button-down shirts are good. And black pants. Of course I have neither.

Oh, and don't whine or say "um." Renee is appalled at how I talk to potential placement agencies on the phone (i.e. exactly how I would talk to anyone else. That's not good, she says.) Oh, and don't barf. Or be at McDonald's.

GOOD LUCK!!!

1)I don't have a shirt with a ribbon, a cardigan or flats. I do have cords, and coincidentally, that's what I was thinking of wearing. I can't be that dressy, though, or he'll think that I'm girl-who-won't-work kind of girl!
2)Agreed on the flip-flops and and skirts. I do have black pants, but they're too dressy for this kind of job.
3)Check on the no barfing. I haven't thrown up in four years, so I should be alright.
4)Check on the no whining (Note to self: that includes school).
5)I just know I'm going to say "uh" and "um" a lot! I also am working very hard at speaking slowly and working out my workds beforehand so that they don't tangle. Very important. Ugh, I'm nervous already, and it's not until the end of the week.
Good luck on your interview, by the way! When is your placement, again?

My placement is all next year. And I think it went well... I hope! They asked me all kinds of crazy "What would you do if..." questions. For some of them I had to say I didn't know, or I answered something they said was exactly the wrong thing to do, but hey, what am I supposed to say, that's why I'm doing a placement!!!

Also, it was scary. People might swear at me. But by an astonishing coincedence, I met this lady from the Well who asked me to help her cross the street on my way there. We chatted. She was so nice. I take this as a sign that I should badger the Well about taking me. They're much nicer there. I am a wimpy, wimpy social worker.

P.S. What about a nice suit? That says to me "I'm a girl-who-will-work kind of girl"!

A suit??! Can you picture me in a suit?

Okay, what's the Well? Why does it make you wimpy?
Women's shelter sounds scary but in a good kind of way. You'd learn a ton about how to work with people. I guess you'd just have to learn to not take people's anger personally. (Says the girl who whimpers if anyone so much looks at her angrily...)
