I'm taking a break from reviewing books and everything YA related.

It used to make me so happy and now I'm just angry all the time. I'm sick of seeing friends and fellow reviewers be smeared and bullied by anonymous cowards playing the victim card as they post personal details online and claim to be the good guys. I'm sick of people claiming I'm a ( Read more... )

I recommend something that involves looking at books or movies that you enjoy. There's a LJ community called antibella, which is dedicated to honoring heroines of all different kinds. I've found hanging out there to be very therapeutic.

i'm sorry you're feeling frustrated with all that stuff. i know i don't regularly comment due to major laziness, but i still like your stuff massively. i imagine this is the case for a great many of your readers.

that's the trouble with expressing your opinions on the internet about pretty much anything, those who would defend you only seem to have so much energy for you and those who would grind you down (the bastards) seem to be powered by infinite rocket fuel.

so, as for hobbies. take up sewing if you haven't already! you can make little felt poppets of the people getting you down, stuff them full of cotton and stick pins in them. or, if you're feeling creative, make them little dresses and imagine how much better people they'd be if they wore a nice floral print once in a while. it's kind of adaptable to how charitable you're feeling that day!

I had totally missed that ext_1300723 July 12 2012, 09:25:53 UTC
And this is exactly why I do not hang out in social networks as much as I used to do. Scary people with too much time on their hands hunting down everyone whose opinion differs from their own.

Take up an offline hobby. Iceskating or hunting annoying people with an axe. Or crocheting. ^^

The options are endless. I took a week of trying new things, and one of the things I tried was a martial arts class. As you're probably aware, it's now a year later and I've essentially given up my Comedy Store life so I can train ninjutsu as much as possible. It's one of the best and most rewarding things I've ever done, and it was totally impulsive (I walked past the sign saying Martial Arts Centre on my way home one day, paused for a second, then took down the phone number. Best decision ever.)

I suggest you could do something like that. Is there an activity you've always been curious about trying? Or maybe one you've never even given a second thought before?

I agree with Pippa! You probably already have an idea of something you want to try (although I recommend arts and crafty things like the previous people, they're fun!).

And I know how you feel. Sometimes it all gets so frustrating and depressing and makes me so ANGRY that I have to stop reading about/watching politics or news for a while. Just take a break for a bit.
